        The outbreak of the Second Anglo-Boer War in October 1899, generated an outpouring of public enthusiasm and support, both in Great Britain and throughout the British Empire.

    This conflict, which was seen as a "white Man's War" was also the last "gentleman's war" in which chivalry played a role, in contrast to the mechanised slaughter of the Great War.

    This book contains over 640 entries and is illustrated with many photographs and maps. Most of the major political and military figures of the Boer War are listed, together with a description of the major battles as well as minor actions.

    The Zulu War and First Boer War are covered and described in some detail. This books provides new reference sources and focuses on the part that Australians played in the conflict
