Strike Swiftly tells the story of commando service in Australia, starting with the early Independent Companies and their remarkable exploits against the Japanese in WW2. In the 1950s, during the Cold War era, two CMF commando companies were raised, including signallers, to train for special operations in the classic commando methods.. This book gives a remarkable insight into a close-knit unit of highly trained individuals with extraordinary skills and a very high esprit de corps. Drawing on the men trained by these companies, many went to SAS and the Regular Army and served in war zones - often proudly wearing the Strike Swiftly badge and green beret. WO Ray Simpson was one of the training NCOs before he died winning a VC in Vietnam. This book lists all those that served with the commandoes and also covers the modern 4 RAR (Commando) Battalion.
