The 7th Battalion won four Victoria Crosses in the Battle of Lone Pine. This feat has never before or since been equalled by any single battalion. This fact is a testament to the gritty fighting prowess of one of Australia's most famous infantry battalions.

Our Dear Old Battalion traces the history of the 7th Battalion from its formation in the first month of the war 1914 from men in the Bendigo area, central Victoria and Western District areas. It then follows its training in Egypt before analysing its multiple engagements at Gallipoli, in Egypt again and on the Western Front.

Throughout that time it was blessed with three magnificent commanders in Lt-Cols 'Pompey' Elliott, Carl Jess and 'Dad' Herrod.

The book is littered with maps and photographs and also contains nominal rolls, Honour Rolls and Honours and Awards.
