men of the ninth a history of the ninth australian field ambulance 1916-1994
Lt-col robert likeman csm
An absorbing account of the work of the Ninth Field Ambulance over a 78 year period. From the muddy fields of Flanders in the First World War until its disbandment in 1944 after the New Guinea campaign.
Likeman describes the life of the 2/9 Field Ambulance in Singapore before its fall to the Japanese and their courage during their subsequent internment at Changi, with the rest of the 8th Division, and their struggles on the Burma Railway.
When the Citizen Military Forces was re-established after the Second World War the 9th Field Ambulance was re-formed in North Queensland. As the last Commanding Officer before the unit before the Field Ambulances were removed from the Order of Battle, Lt-Col Likeman is well qualified to to chronicle this period of the unit's life.
