As one of the three Oboe Operations in Borneo, the 1945 Australian invasion of Labuan wrestled that island from the Japanese and secured a base for the capture of British North Borneo. Sergeant George McFarlane was a member of 1 Australian Beach Group during the seaborne landing and this is his view of the events of the attack. He later had the interesting experience of attending one of the war crime trials held on Labuan and his observations give an insight into the trial of several Japanese. This is one man's wartime experiences in the islands to our north. |
