fire from the forest
the sas brigade in france, 1944
roger ford The SAS Brigade, as it then was, played a special part in the liberation of France in 1944: an irregular force airdropped deep inside enemy-occupied territory and deployed to inflict damage and delay on the Germans out of all proportion to the small number of SAS men involved. In all, they mounted some thirty six operations, sabotaging railways, calling in air strikes and ambushing enemy patrols, often working alongside the local maquisards. 315 pp - Paperback - Published 2004
