The story begins with the victorious march towards Stalingrad in August 1942 and follows as the victory turns into a battle quagmire with astronomical rates of attrition. After a couple of months of hard slog combat the Division had been reduced to a battlegroup consisting of a few panzers and a couple of hundred men.
