Beau's Butchers and Boomerangs is the story of Mareeba Airfield. It was a the base on which hundreds of Australian and American air personnel served during World War 2. It was a vital component of the defence of Australia and helped turn the tide against the Japanese it the in the Pacific Theatre.
It features four squadrons in depth. Two RAAF squadrons: Number 100 Squadron and Number 5 Squadron as well as the 19th and 43rd Groups USAF. Many of the men in these airborne units suffered the ultimate price in the defence of the South West Pacific against the immensely successful Japanese advance into that region.
