ABC broadcaster, Chester Wilmot, was one of the greatest correspondents of the Second World War. This collection of his broadcasts tells the story of the Australian and British actions in the Middle East, the tragic Greek and Crete campaigns, gives insights into life on the ground in Syria and New Guinea, and reaches its climax in the reporter's coverage of Kokoda, where he accompanied the 21st up the Track. An outstanding broadcaster and reporter, Wilmot was master of both descriptions of action and close analysis of strategy. He also pioneered the interviewing of troops on the ground at the time when war reportage comprised an announcer reading a brief description of events. The broadcasts collected here are Wilmot's originals and they are accompanied by a commentary from journalist and writer Neil McDonald. 412 pp - hardback - Published 2004
