The story of Sapper Howard Denning who joined the Engineers in 1914 after leaving for work one day in 1914 but joined the AIF instead. He landed at Gallipoli and was involved in the struggle there before being evacuated to hospital on Malta.. By 1916 he was in France, staying until the 1918 battles and giving us a tremendous account of what WW1 warfare was like.
