The author spent 12 years in the Royal Australian Navy from 1940 to 1952 and ww2 experiences included being sunk in the Meditewrrainian Sea when HMAS Waterhen was sunk. He survived that to join Nizam and was still serving when the New Guinea fight-back campaigns occurred. Sailing on the aircraft carrier Sydney, he went to the Korean War where the ship was often at action stations.
